"Music video by Yo-Yo Ma;Alison Krauss performing The Wexford Carol. (C) 2008 SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT"
Voice of an angel.
Lovely. One of my favorites. Thanks for reminding me of this beautiful song.
It came to mind this morning when I noticed that the local all-classical FM station here, in Christmas mode for a couple of weeks now, to my knowledge has not played it yet this year. They’ve had it on Maximum Rotation every December since it was released.
I’ve emailed a request to their midday host this morning; the station is all-request from 10am-3pm weekdays, live by phone or by email anytime.
Agreed. Even better than Elvis Costello’s version :-)
I have listened to this beautiful rendition of The Wexford Carol so many times and each time I am struck anew a feeling of such sweet sound that goes to the very core of my heart and soul. Alison’s angelic voice is, of course, moving, but I especially love the subtle delicate percussion sounds …. Particularly the Bodhran (Irish drum), which is a favorite of the instruments I play, and the unexpected beautiful haunting sounds from the Bagpipes.
Thank you for posting this and reminding us that one of the truly delightful traditions of the Christmas season is experiencing the love of Jesus through music and worshipfully glorifying Him.
My pleasure, FRiend. It’s why I came back to FR after years away from this site :-)
.
I am a big fan of hers but hadn’t heard this one. Wow! I love the Celtic music sound, which is echoed in traditional American music, and she has the perfect voice to pull this off.
Alison Krauss - home town girl - Champaign, Illinois.
Astounding. Both are artists of the highest caliber. Thanks for posting!I have an album with Yo Yo, Stuart, Duncan and Thile called “Goat Rodeo” that is also fantastic.
Love both of them so much. Exquisite. Love the cello plucking part.
Beautiful.
