FSU, since the mid-60s when the girls school finally started producing decent football teams (and at least as recently as the mid-90s) repeatedly spurned Florida’s offer to support them in applying for admission to the SEC. They got what they deserved - it just took a while.
If FSU was betting the ACC would develop into a competitive league, they bet wrong. Now they have time to polish all those meaningless ACC trophies.
You seem to view this in a way similar to me.
FSU joined the ACC instead of the SEC so that they could be on top of the conference in football. The ACC was really a powerful basketball conference. This is FSU getting their just desserts.
They can thank a former coach for steering them into the ACC and consequently what happened this year. They had a strength of schedule ranked 55th in the country.
