They should have had the option of having one or two play-in games if necessary, like this year. Conference championship should have been considered CFP preliminaries, with losers eliminated. The future 12-team format is too many games, and reduces the interest/value/need of conference championships.
I always felt that a six-team playoff was the perfect size.
Top Two teams get byes, while the other four play in the First Round.
So if we had the 12 team playoff this season, would Liberty have gotten in?
It makes it a mute point when a champiuonship bracket like the NCAA is closed to conferences that are not expected to be competitive by politics. They are there for cannon fodder for the ones the NCAA seeds in what are no minor bowls. I enjoy it when the little guys either beat them or scare hell out of them.
Notice there are basically half southeastern teams in the bracket in Georgia and Florida State. And where’s Liberty that went undeafeated this year and are listed at 24th? No Alabama? Didn’t they just beat Georgia? Politics and money, not playoffs.
