Service members and vets will verbally abuse other service members/vets in ways that would leave others horrified.
For example, when I see someone I don't know in Wal*Mart wearing a different service ball cap, I will say, "I didn't know they allowed _____ pukes to shop here." This never fails to get a smile and we might chat for a few minutes. You meet a lot of interesting people that way. I even met a retired Army general one time. He was passing through but we chatted pleasantly.
While on active duty, I would abuse Army Military Intel types by reminding them that Military Intelligence is a contradiction in terms while Naval Intelligence is redundant. FWIW - Air Force Intelligence has been postulated but never documented.
That this is permitted, and even tacitly encouraged, is because both sides know that the other has their back. (Except during the Army/Navy game.)

So what you’re saying is your seagoing uberlift crapdrivers couldn’t help my Marines get one more TD to pull that game out? When outside types happen to overhear us talking cheapstuff to each other it usually sets them back or off. Having worked with a broad mix for one reason or another I’ve always been mindful to keep the trash talk from being overheard. Usually to avoid having to translate. Even here with the Freeqs. there’s always someone who doesn’t get the drift.
