Definitely not UFO 🛸. Besides, If we can’t get a live Monkey through the Van Allen belts, how could Klingons and Romulans get in?
Heck, when we sent the Space Shuttle up 350 miles (650 miles below the Belts) the astronauts required cataract surgery when the got back because of Radiation Damage.

See also my comments on fly-by-wire.
I’ll more or less concede the point that appropriately arming the thing is a separate question from getting it to fly properly in the first place.

-Back when men were MEN, they went out and tried stuff. It didn’t always work, but at least they had balls. Now, bipeds who pretend to be MEN but aren’t just snarkily ask “what could possibly go wrong?”-
The 1950’s were the golden age of jets. Every year they came out with a couple of new jet fighters. Not only did they built them, they deployed them. They just went out and tried stuff.

Really cool thread!
We may have to borrow it, as we’re getting close to the 4,000 mark on the ZOT! thread we were so generously gifted by Delta 21.

Indeed. And then there were the “X” planes ... X-1 thru 5, X-13, X-14, and X-15.

I remember a small display model (2 1/2 foot or so) of this back in the 90s. The things I’ve seen, lol.

I don’t believe that 300 decibels number in the least. Re-entry is only around 180db. If sound pressure doubles every 5db, you can see this is impossible.

The aliens keep their vehicles squeaky clean and shiny—easy to spot fakes.
