I had great great uncles in the confederate army. My great grandfather on the other side of the family joined up with some confederate irregulars, was captured, paroled and joined the Union Army. He fought at Cedar Creek and Winchester.
Confederate General "Fighting Joe" Wheeler was my 6th cousin, 7th removed.
