Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Rostyslav Shurma held a meeting with major participants in the wood processing and furniture industry market, as well as with the leadership of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”.
Rostyslav Shurma informed the meeting attendees about the measures being taken to eradicate corruption within the regional branches of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”.
“We are bringing order to the regions. In view of this, some heads of regional branches were detained by law enforcement agencies. I can assure you that these are not the last measures. We will rigorously purge corrupt individuals to make the industry transparent,” explained the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office.
He also talked about the government’s determination to bring order to the timber procurement sector.
“Here, it’s necessary to continue the reform of the sales mechanism and find an optimal approach that would suit both market participants and the state,” emphasized Rostyslav Shurma.
Following the meeting, it was agreed to prepare a timber procurement plan for the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” for the upcoming year, initiate a pilot project to introduce long-term contracts in the industry, as well as create a more flexible pricing system. Specifically, the parties agreed to explore the possibility of conducting Dutch auctions for timber sales.
The meeting participants agreed to explore technical capabilities to alter the assortment structure in response to market demands.
The Deputy Head of the President’s Office emphasized that the goal is to maximize the efficiency of timber logging.
“We have no intention of harvesting excessive timber that will go to waste. However, it’s also important for us not to create an artificial shortage that fuels corruption. Therefore, by the end of the year, it’s necessary to strike a balance and harvest as much raw material as the market requires. At the same time, the price of timber should be competitive, allowing operators to export processed products while maintaining an acceptable level of profitability in European Union countries,” clarified Rostyslav Shurma.
According to the Deputy Head of the President’s Office, most market participants are positive about the changes that have taken place in the industry. However, the system of timber sales and logging needs further improvement.
The parties decided to present a set of measures aimed at reducing the share of “black” and “gray” timber on the market and introduce uniform requirements for controlling timber circulation in the near future.

The launch of the grain corridor without Russia is one of Ukraine’s greatest achievements in 2023. This strengthens the Ukrainian economy, and Kyiv’s position in the international arena saves people around the world from hunger. The Russian oil business began to experience difficulties finding oil tankers for transportation. After the full-scale invasion, Ukrainians demonstrated impressive unity and efficiency, which broke the enemy’s plans that hoped to occupy Ukraine easily and quickly. The decision of the courts of the Netherlands about Scythian gold once again proves that Crimea is Ukraine, and the temporary Russian occupation does not give Moscow the right to encroach on the Crimean part of the historical and cultural heritage of the people of Ukraine.

Over UAH 67 billion in bank loans granted to 12,700 agricultural enterprises for development this year
Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine

https://www.kmu.gov.ua/en/news/ponad-67-mlrd-hryven-bankivskykh-kredytiv-otrymaly-127-tys-ahropidpryiemstv-tsoho-roku-na-rozvytok
Since the beginning of the year, 12,700 Ukrainian agricultural enterprises have received UAH 67.6 billion in bank loans for development. Of these, 9,800 enterprises received UAH 38.7 billion in loans under the Government’s Affordable Loans at 5-7-9 program.
Agricultural enterprises in the following regions received the largest amount of loans under various programs:
• Kyiv region – UAH 11.1 billion (937 enterprises);
• Dnipropetrovsk region – UAH 6.2 billion (813);
• Vinnytsia region – UAH 6.04 billion (1,441);
• Cherkasy region – UAH 5.31 billion (495);
• Kirovohrad region – UAH 4.89 billion (1,688);
• Odesa region – UAH 4.4 billion (1,099).
The following regions received the most loans under the Affordable Loans at 5-7-9 program:
• Kirovohrad region – UAH 4.14 billion (1,337 enterprises);
• Vinnytsia region – UAH 3.9 billion (1,084);
• Odesa region – UAH 3.7 billion (885);
• Kyiv region – UAH 3.65 billion (746).
BACKGROUND
The Affordable Loans at 5-7-9 programme simplifies access to bank lending for micro and small businesses. Farmers can receive a loan of up to UAH 90 million. Loans are provided at 5-9% per annum, depending on the loan category and type of business entity.
My analysis is that this war is just like WWI on the Western Front and the year is 1917.
2024 is likely going to be an important year. It depends on who's going to win the election? Biden? Trump? So the Ukrainians and the Russians will fight until January 20, 2025.
