i took a look at it (hard to read in small print). presumably the objectionable language for Massie was ‘...denying the right of Israel to exist is a form of antisemitism.’
humm. i generally have supported this guy (a libertarian?), but i call it weaselly for him to say he agrees in part with the bill and disagrees with the ‘Zionism’ part. he says Zionism is equated with antisemitism. again, that’s not quite what the bill says. apparently, Massie (presumably not a Zionist) thinks voting for the bill muzzles criticism of Israel. Zionists can’t criticize Israel? really, the OT is full of criticism of Israel. again, bill doesn’t say that.
the whole bill basically equates the desire of Israel’s enemies to destroy it as a ‘form of antisemitism’ the way i read it. if Israel is a Jewish theocracy, as it was historically, then that makes sense. clearly today, it’s not a Jewish theocracy, but some kind of hybrid, based on law and a constitution, like us.
but, of course, that’s not the way it’s muslim enemies take it. they consider modern Israel a ‘form’ Jewish theocracy, as the consider the US a ‘form’ of Christian theocracy, and thus, it’s an affront to Islam, the Jewish/Christian heresy, and their religion demands it’s subjugation or destruction.
oh, perhaps the bill would have been less confusing to Massie, giving him the benefit of doubt as not an anti-semite, the bill ought to define Zionism. i’ve seen a lot of them. my definition was cobbled from a study of the Bible: essentially, at my current level of Bible study, ‘Zionism’ accepts the conditional covenant of God with certain descendants of Abraham (acceptable to God, or a Remnant) who are called Israel, which gives those descendants the right to occupy, work and worship God on His claimed inheritance: His Land surrounding His City (Jerusalem) and His People living at His pleasure, on that Land.
And his explanation is sound. No true friend of Jews or of Israel or of rational argument could, in good conscience, surrender his sacred vote to the notion that to oppose or criticize Zionism is antisemitism. Is opposition to or criticism of BLM or the NAACP racism?
Some here don’t really want a representative with actual integrity, and that’s a sad thing.
I fully support Thomas Massie and Israel at the same time.
Both the USA and Israel have Establishment Politicians who spend money wildly and are Globalists unlike Mr. Massie.
He’s absolutely on target.
Freepers and nuance
Not a likely pairing
So is Massie an anti Zionist? From the river to the sea Massie is a douche bag.
I’m voting no on the resolution because it equates anti-Zionism with antisemitism. Antisemitism is deplorable, but expanding it to include criticism of Israel is not helpful.
Say what...??
First we should pass a resolution “Reaffirming the Free Republic of The United States Right to Exist”
The whole resolution is trivial and meaning less. Furthermore, it doesn’t matter.
I agree with Massie’s position. Anti-Semitism and Anti-Zionism are two different things.
He is still $hit!
The resolution is really helpful because now I have a hit list for who I am donating to eject from Congress. Of course it is the usual suspects including the Squad and Jayapal
