-—called the number on his tag-—Every now and then a dog will bring his guy to my shop. The dogs all like me and usually wind up under the office desk. Have never figgered that out. I usually end up making a tag for the pup. I have a Dynograph and keep a box of brass tags so it’s easy to make a quick label. I usually stamp in: “My name is ( ). If you find me please call ( ). And sometimes I have to make tags for wives that say the same thing plus: Please bring me home to ( ), Not sure why I have to keep track of both dogs and wives?

I also put “REWARD” on the dog tag. Our little guy was so obedient, he never left our front yard. We were out there together one afternoon and I went into the house to get something — and automatically closed the front door. I forgot he was out there. About thirty minutes later I figured out what I’d done but he was gone by then. Probably confused at being out there alone for so long. i freaked because we have regular coyote sightings.

After about an hour we got a call from a man who’d found him. He’d run out of our street and across the neighborhood golf course into another neighborhood. We happily paid the nice man the reward. And I spent the next week apologizing to our terrier for forgetting about him. It was the only event in our seventeen fabulous years with him.
