The procedures that I described in my post 429 are 100% correct. I go through that process every time I drive to Buffalo once or twice a week. However, it no longer appears that the vehicle even tried to cross the border. Instead, it travelled the road in front of the toll booths and beyond the Customs primary booths on the US side of the bridge at a very high rate of speed. It crashed into a 24”-30” concrete barrier, vaulting over it, and exploded in the air before landing near the Customs secondary processing area.
The additional information points to four possibilities. One is that it was an accident caused by a medical emergency that froze the driver’s foot to the gas pedal. Every account refers to a very high rate of speed before the crash and we can even see the speed in some videos. The impact of the vehicle against the concrete barrier caused the gas tank of the Bentley (go in style) to break open and create the explosion in the air that everyone reported.
The second possibility is that the occupants were arguing and the driver decided to end the argument and the relationship in a very dramatic way. Initial reports were that the occupants were a male and female. The crash does look purposeful.
The third possibility is that the travellers decided they could not or should not try to cross the border. They chose instead to ram the car into whatever structure they could to create maximum damage and possibly weaken the structural integrity of the bridge enough to bring it down. The route they took before the crash is against normal traffic flow and their speed was extreme.
The fourth possibility is the same as the third, but with explosives. Official sources deny that there were any explosives involved. Who knew that a car could explode like that with just gasoline and engine oil? But it’s a Bentley, so what do I know?
Governor Hochul was in Niagara Falls, NY, last night. I’m still having trouble with the idea that she’d leave Albany and Thanksgiving preparations to attend a traffic accident. We may never know the truth.
