"NOAA Space Weather prediction center is showing some spikes in solar activity on 12/1, but I’m not sure exactly how that will translate into northern lights and other issues. Should be an increase in visibility, but depends on what time of day it happens. If there is any “day” way up north this time of year."

There were 3 Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) heading our way this week, one right after another. The first one has already passed, with minimal impact. The 3rd one was the strongest and is projected to catch up with #2 to combine and hit us sometime tomorrow (Dec 1).

Level 2 or 3 geo-magnetic storms (Kp 6 or 7) that could cause some disruption (GPS, highlevel radio, etc.) are forecast with some likely low latitude aurora displays*.

This will be followed in about 4 days by a coronal hole stream from a large hole crossing the earth-plane.

* Note: Between 1859 and 2022, there were 5 recorded low-latitude auroral displays - usually the result of strong X-class type flares. This year alone, with only M-class and 1 low-level X-class flare, there have been 5 visible as far south as Florida. This is indicative of a weakening of the strength of our geo-magnetic field. None of the 5 CMEs this year have been strong enough, on their own, to have done this.
