No surprise, actually. They had a story to tell to cover up LBJ's involvement in the assassination. Everyone who cooperated reaped a reward. Just to name a few examples:

• J. Edgar Hoover wasn't outed as a poofter and got to keep his job.
  
• Dan Rather, a local at the state media Dallas news desk, got promoted to the national network.
  
• Gerald Ford, a minor Michigan congressman who served on the Warren Commission, became the first appointed president in American history.
  
• Arlen Specter, a minor attorney at the Philadephia D.A.'s office became a U.S. Senator.

  There are even more examples, but those are a few that come to mind. Compromising the magic bullet theory would compromise these deep state promotions.
