"You can’t have a negative basis." It's just a figure of speech. You can have negative basis in the name. But if you bot at $100 and sold at 350 and then bought back shares, you have a 250 embedded or "booked" profit in yes, some other shares, not your current shares. Buying back under $200, now you have a 300 profit in however many shs you bought back.
