1. The customer is your bread and butter, so it's smart to treat them like you want them to come back again.
2. Your job IS your life while you're at work. The more you throw yourself into it the better you'll do. The more detached you are the more likely you are to be replaced.

Replaced by who? There’s no Replacements. Boomers are dying and retiring en masse and millions of younger people are unemployable.

The customer is your bread and butter, so it's smart to treat them like you want them to come back again. That's partially true. It's really easy for the clowns in corporate to tell that story but good luck getting one of them to deal with a customer's concern.
Too many employees are left at the front lines, dealing with customers' problems that the corporate office refuses to address.
Also, some customers need to be thrown out and told to never come back. They're a menace to other customers and employees.
