ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Less than 24 hours before Michigan football kicks off against Penn State, the Big Ten has suspended Jim Harbaugh as part of the ongoing the sign-stealing case.

The suspension is for the rest of the regular season and includes only games, not practices. Michigan is expected to fight this decision in an attempt to relieve Harbaugh of punishment until the NCAA investigation is complete.

Here is the full statement from the Big Ten:

The Big Ten Conference announced today that the University of Michigan has been found in violation of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy for conducting an impermissible, in-person scouting operation over multiple years, resulting in an unfair competitive advantage that compromised the integrity of competition.

Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01 states in part that “The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of the competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials.”

As a penalty imposed on the institution, the University football team must compete without its Head Football Coach for the games remaining in the 2023 regular-season, effective immediately. This disciplinary action shall not preclude the University or its football team from having its Head Football Coach attend practices or other football team activities other than the game activities to which it applies. For clarity, the Head Football Coach shall not be present at the game venue on the dates of the games to which this disciplinary action applies.

The Big Ten Conference will have no additional comment at this time.

Sending a person to scout future opponents has been outlawed in the NCAA

Biggest joke in history since every high school in Michigan video scouts all their upcoming opponents........LOL!

Michigan is going to court - they will get a judge to overturn at least the decision for the Penn St game.
Odds are Harbaugh will coach tomorrow.
I’m no fan of Harbaugh - I just think that’s what will happen.

May be a “joke” to you, but it is legal for high schools to do this, but it is not legal for colleges. Like the rule , don’t like the rule but it is a rule and it is pretty obvious they did the crime

Here is another rule head coaches are responsible for everything their staff does whether they know or not.

Again like it or not it is a rule

he Crimson Tide can claim 57 players on NFL rosters for the 2023 season’s opening weekend, with Ohio State (47), Georgia (46), LSU (43) and Michigan (38) rounding out the top five, according to figures released by the league after Week 1.

FYI

Selective enforcement since you're too naive to believe that the rest of the NCAA colleges don't do the same thing......

LIke I said, if they're doing it in high school, they're sure as hell doing it in college........

Don’t have it at my fingertips but a rival team was given stolen signs from the Michigan Wolverines to use against them.

Summary:
Michigan shared evidence with the Big Ten on 7 November that alleged that Ohio State, Rutgers and Purdue had conspired to steal signs in a coordinated effort. Michigan alleged they were sent a document by a former Purdue coach that showed that the three schools were working in concert to decode Michigan’s signs.

It’s outrageous they did this on the anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald!

If they are then they should be punished too “selective” when OSU’s Conner stallions is exposed then talk to me, saying they all do it doesn’t cut it

“ officer you can’t give me a ticket for speeding, everyone does”.

As to high school comment, was legal in college till poorer schools complained that they could not afford to send scouts so it was made illegal, got a problem with the rule change it, got a problem you got caught saying everybody does it again doesn’t cut it

Michigan got caught, enjoy your pocket hot dogs coach

With all that said, tomorrow will be a test, if Michigan loses it is all over for them and strength of schedule arguments will be validated(112 in strength of schedule), if they win barely folks will say they are good, but not superhuman, maybe they were cheating…if they clobber Penn then I will jump on Michigan is great team bandwagon, if they barely lose to penn but beat OSU, then they should be in, if they beat penn and osu they should be number 1

The cheating allegations are one thing let’s see how it goes on the field

OSU had to vacate games miss playoff game if I recall because of far less infractions IMO, and sadly cheatgate or whatever it is called is not the only legal issues hanging over Michigan.

And if true they should be punished if it violated rules, is there evidence or just allegations, that’s what I have heard from Michigan fans for last couple of weeks, would be very surprised if big ten management would penalize Michigan if they did not have serious goods , we will see

They’re still maturing young men though, most of whom are not experienced with any kind of real money, and could still really use the time on campus to develop themselves personally and hopefully intellectually. This Guy is not looking forward to the future flood of money into high-level college football and basketball.
