Qatar was unheard of 30 or so years ago.
Then they became wealthy from natural gas — something of actual physical value compared to bytes on wires containing movies on a screen.
They are a tiny country on the east side of Saudi Arabia and they share the enormous off-shore gas field under the Persian Gulf with Iran on the eastern side of the Persian Gulf.
Iran’s natural gas reserves are 2nd largest in the world and Qatar is #3. Of course Russia is #1.
Qatar is an unusual situation with the only thing that matters politically for a Muslim country — Sunni or Shiite.
Their royal family’s matriarch is related to Iranian Shiite clerics, but the population is mostly Sunni. So Sunni vs Shiite. The decisive question for what they might support.
Remember this in all discussions of why funds who. Hamas is Sunni. Hezbollah is Shiite. Iran supports Hezbollah. There has never been any doubt about this and they proudly say so.
Not so of Hamas. Remember that when wacko warmongers want Iran bombed because of Hamas. That is the wrong target. Sunni central is Saudi Arabia, not Iran. But, of course, that would be a problem, wouldn’t it?
