I think there are a lot of marriages a among relatively distant cousins and such. How could there not be, as closed as each community is? That can’t help. A wider gene pool would be healthier.

So true. Up here, especially. The communities are not as large or numerous. They do tend to keep that gene pool fairly restricted, and it’s bound to have consequences.
