#RIP Pearl Harbor survivor Horace Hamilton who passed away on Sunday at the age of 99. Hamilton was a gunner's mate aboard USS Phoenix when the Japanese attacked on 7 Dec 1941. He was still serving on the Phoenix when the light cruiser fought in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in 1944. pic.twitter.com/e38LnOvV4h— U.S. Naval Institute (@NavalInstitute) November 2, 2023

I thought the USS Phoenix’s name sounded familiar.
She made it all the way through WW2, then was sold to Argentina in 1951.
She became the General Belgrano, and was sunk in the Falklands War between Argentona and Britain in 1982.

Horace is somewhere on deck when this picture was taken on Dec. 7, 1941 of the USS Phoenix steaming past the USS Arizona, at his battle station as a gunner's mate. Probably pondering what the future would hold for him and for America.
