Energy security International activity

Cooperation between Ukraine and international partners is the way to address global energy security challenges. This was discussed at the third meeting of national security and foreign policy advisers on the implementation of President Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula, held in Malta under the chairmanship of Andriy Yermak, Head of the Presidential Office. Energy security is one of the points of the Peace Formula that was discussed.

“russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have caused enormous damage and require the development of an international response system to ensure accountability. Ukraine needs a protective ‘shield’ for energy facilities through air defence systems and equipment, as well as the supply and stockpiling of equipment in Europe to restore the energy infrastructure,” said Minister of Energy German Galushchenko.

He noted that such measures were already underway: Ukraine is the first country in the world to introduce multi-level protection of civilian energy infrastructure against the consequences of hostile attacks.

Another important aspect is to ensure international monitoring of energy facilities and mutual protection. It is also necessary to invest in decentralised energy systems, explore alternative ways of supplying energy resources and increase the capacity of interstate electricity interconnections.

The Minister thanked the partner countries, in particular the co-chairs of the Energy Security Working Group, Poland and Denmark, for their joint efforts to implement the Peace Formula.

“We are working together to ensure the reliability of energy supplies, strengthen the resilience of energy infrastructure, diversify energy trade and prevent russian energy manipulation. These are the building blocks of energy security, and thus the well-being of Ukraine and the world,” concluded German Galushchenko.
