What irks me the most is when good intentioned people say “hey we were all immigrants once. We should let immigrants in”. While that is true, the key difference is when our forefathers were immigrants they fought, bled and died and lived a rough wild life building this country. Immigrants nowadays are freeloaders. My immigrant grandparents assimilated into American culture and had basically the same values to begin with. And they learned ENGLISH and did not demand everyone accommodate their old country language.

I live in a northern rust-belt state. Growing up, grocery stores carried Eastern European food like home-made pirogies and haluski. No longer. But there is a halal food truck that makes its rounds. And I’m seeing women in hijabs now.

"Immigrants" are almost never a net positive for the natives. However, many times the culture of the natives is in collapse anyway, which is why the invaders get in anyway.
The society forms afterwards is largely that of the invaders precisely because the culture of the natives had already devolved to the point where they couldn't keep the invaders out.
