Vanity - What Should a Third Party (or a totally revamped Republican party) look like?
Self | 10/27/2023 | mbrfl

This is an open question on what a third party or a revamped, RINO-free Republican party should look like. The goal for most of us here is to establish a party that's more beholden to the people, not the special interests. The election of Mike Johnson appears to be a good step in the right direction. But my question is less about how we go about establishing such a party, whether a brand-new party or a reformed GOP, and more about how the party structure might be changed in the future to keep the Establishment/Globalist interests at bay.

For example, maybe the whole nomination process should be shortened from the year long, primary based campaign that we currently have, to a shorter process - possibly relying more on caucuses than primaries. Might this be helpful in minimizing the influence of the wealthy donor class and make it possible for true citizen politicians (as opposed to career politicians) to rise to the top?

I don't know the answer(s), but it's a discussion worth having, IMO. Any thoughts?

I think it’s the social aspects causing us to lose.

The thing that will actually change the way things are is an educated public that gets out and meets their neighbors for normal sorts of things like bake sales instead of bonding over protest marches. People don’t need to just get together to all get mad together. They need to learn to cooperate together to get things done that are worth doing.

If people are approaching the task in a spirit of cooperation to get things done, they will learn without balkanizing. The way the Democrats are doing this isn’t good either because everyone ends up bonding over being mad.

I guess the difference is that the Republicans trade off of making the voters feel helpless rage, while the Democrats get them all angry and then point them at an outlet for their anger.

It would be better to rebuild civic engagement around common ground than making everyone hate each other.

Yes...
Take the republican party written standards, copy and paste.
Then, just do it!!!!!

It’s sad when the party can’t follow it’s own doctrine

You must be older than me, and I’m old.
With the use of social media, printed crap and signage are just a waste of money and time.
You need very little money to get elected anymore.

Social conservatism + interventionist State on behalf of US citizens/labor/environment, end to finance capitalism.

Win every election with 75% of the vote.

I would rather have a party that is beholden to the Constitution.

The Constitution is dead.

Republican woman’s club grandmother, and her recollections about how her dad did things in the Republican central committee. He had one of the last functional precinct organizations around.

We need a Pied Piper in our libertarian wing. Rand Paul as VP would do it.

Then we would need another Walter E. Williams out there to say he’s handsome and talk about his wife.

Just remember the rats fall for that Messiah-like ‘change you can believe in’ crap. We can peel off enough of those if they just line up behind Trump and don’t cower to his critics.

I think it’s the social aspects that keep us a viable option.

Our new speaker is solid on every social issue and look at him. Clearing the house. These are our best leaders.

Our founders didn’t mean for our nation to be one where the unborn have no right to life, homosexual politics rule in our military and government, marriage is redefined out of existence, drug abuse is considered victimless, and Christians are forbidden to exercise their religion in the civil realm.

I don’t believe for a minute that Fetterman won legitimately.
(Not that we don’t also have lots of mindless voters voting for mindless candidates.)

I agree.

But the discouraging truth is as you said: many mindless people did vote for him.

And Joe Biden, Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, Hank Johnson and so many others.

And its not just the mindless voters - there are so many who are motivated by hate, identity politics, party loyalty and so many other reasons
having nothing to do with good governance.

IMHO the bottom line is that there are just too many idiots, haters and crazies to think this suicidal national plunge will ever be stopped short
barring some humongous disater of some sort.

“ Basically you’re talking about a separate, independent party structure devoted to vetting Republican candidates. ”

That is basically what conservative PACS do. NRA, National Right to Life, Turning Point, ACLJ, whatever. They vet, recruit, train, fund, get their skates to supporters.

I don’t think I expressed my idea well.

I meant to say I think the reluctance of former (cough RINOs) Republican leaders in the past to challenge democrats on social issues is causing us to lose the overall battle today. 2 examples:

1. Immigration. Repubs allowed Dems to make it all about being kind to the downtrodden, what’s best for poor aliens. The consequence was (at least largely) Ca. which was the home of Reagan is now a solid bright blue state.
2. Education. Repubs. allowing cultural Marxism to be taught in schools by faculty that is something like 85% democrats has turned colleges into leftist factories. Churning out endless lines liberals.

Basically we are paying for the old neo-con idea that only things relating to the GDP, military or country club matter.

Rand Paul is better as a devil’s advocate, and the other guy I’ve never heard of, which could work for a while but the problem with not being a household name is that with enough money, a smear campaign will more often than not succeed. The problem with Libertarians is that we have a mixed economic system, which ideally takes the best of different ideologies and employs them where appropriate. Problems happen when one ideology gets too big for its britches and either crashes the economy by falling into China’s trap (for example), or else spends us into oblivion. I don’t think life is about the elegant simplicity of one-size-fits-all rationalism.

To be honest, if the GOP wants to win they need to go with pragmatic fiscal conservatives across the board. I think that is what Trump promised, but then things got weird.

“”””What I would like to see is a party that is fiscally conservative, socially libertarian and one who see the Constitution as the way our founders meant it. A party that is America First.”””””

Our founders were not social liberals and would spit on the libertarian party.

Your ideal party is basically what California had, and they were so weak and hollow because of being social liberals that the left has devoured them.
