Well, he probably planned to not be the only one that would try to vacate the speakership because w/o 3 or 4 others, he’d look foolish when it failed. So, in his planning stage, he might’ve seen who might be a possible replacement. Before today (& this wasn’t planned), they could’ve gone to 2024 (not a typo) with no speaker. So, what I’m saying is that he & we lucked out.
I see where many were saying there should have been other candidates lined up....
But at this point, how many other statements and promises did mccarthy have to break or fail to go through with, before someone tried to hold him on it?
And as it is, what non polarizing house member would have been elected, with mccarthy still interferring from the background (see the Gaetz interview with Bannon for info)?
As it is, I’m surprised with the Johnson pick, but Charlie Kirk seems to approve, so he’s likely as good a choice as the republicans might be able to come together on.
A gentle reminder that when the Declaration of Independence was signed, they didn’t have a plan for what was next.
