I have always found it fascinating, once I discovered that Israel does not have provisions for its private citizens to widely own and use firearms. They have no equivalent to the Second Amendment, and their gun laws appear to be fairly draconian.
That is at odds with everything you ever see in the media… They always show Israelis walking around with automatic weapons, slung over their shoulders while they’re drinking coffee. Turns out the opposite is true.
I don’t understand that.
If there ever was a country in this entire world that should have the equivalent of a second amendment, and a population that is fully invested in the use and maintenance of that right, I always thought that would be Israel
If it ever comes to that in this country, I expect the second amendment to be our last bulwark of defense.
That is, if we can find a way to keep our own government from throwing us in jail for protecting ourselves. I don’t want it ever to get to a point where we have to leverage the second amendment in a serious manner on a daily basis around the country to combat active terrorists, but if we do… I expect that would be less of an issue at that time.
I hope that last paragraph isn’t just fantasy, but I expect there are many who I fully expect that. On my part, if that time ever comes, I will take my chances with the hostility of my own government against me for defending myself.
If it ever comes to that in this country, I expect the second amendment to be our last bulwark of defense.
