There is bound to be a war sooner or later between Iran and Israel, what is not as inevitable is who joins in this conflict, and if so, with what aims.

The only thing that has prevented this war up until now is probably sufficient deterrence on Iran that they cannot accept the likely consequences. Clearly a war between Iran and Israel is something Iran would start, either directly, or by increasing provocations forcing Israel to start the war to avoid further escalation. It appears this may be Iran’s goal now, or at least something they hope will happen. So Israel needs to be very cautious, calculating who else would join in, and whether there would be enough assistance (from U.S. mainly, possibly other NATO countries) to take the risk of starting the war.

We can guess that Clinton and Biden are gung-ho for this war to break out for the usual neo-con reasons. Iran may strike us as being mostly bluster and rhetoric, with a weak punch; however, Iran aided by Syria, hezbollah, possibly even Russia, would be a less ridiculous opponent than Iran alone, and the more participants, the more risks of others joining in. I hope this round will stay under control, but I sense this could be the time it does not stay under control (barely as in the past) and we get into the worst crisis in the region since 1973 at least, if not worse.

I hate to see this happening with such a weak U.S. president and divided congress, and the wild cards of how it inter-relates with other potential or ongoing war situations (Taiwan, Ukraine to name a pair). Our elites have more of an inclination to “go nuclear” because they have options most of us do not have. One of the most dangerous situations we face is being governed by elites who see advantages to mass casualty events and even nuclear war, who believe they can come out as “winners” (and maybe they are right, which is no reason to accept it).

No, that was not me at the event, but good on whoever tried to ask these questions. A question I would add is this — are we going to count actual votes in November 2024, or will we just pretend a Democrat won?

Biden isn’t the president. He is just a Muppet. Not sure who is in charge, but I don’t think they are weak. I do think they are wrong.
