I read the names of these Oregon state board of education leaders as being Hispanic. I can see the reason they don’t want to prevent diplomas from being given to students who can’t read, write or compute. They can’t read or write in English or Spanish. What kind of future do these young people have without literacy?
What kind of “favor” are you doing giving diplomas to young people WHO CANNOT READ THEIR DIPLOMAS?
This is a complete disconnect from the mandatory need for “graduates” to be able to work in a job other than picking ripened fruit or vegetables in a farm field, dealing illegal drugs or stealing cars and selling them for parts.
The state has fewer than 2-percent blacks, and it’s around 14-percent for the Hispanic population. What the state is avoiding to say is that Hispanic kids who ‘just arrive’ by age 10 to 13...aren’t in shape to handle the US grade levels, and the state has never built a program to handle ‘new’ citizens.
So that Hispanic 18-year old kid is probably at best....at 8th or 9th grade level by the time they ‘graduate’ (fake-graduate is the better term).
Rather than admit this problem...they simple erased the certificate test. When the Hispanic kid shows up at some community college or state university...they will have to test the kid and then tell them they aren’t of the quality for the demands of the school....unless they do an entire year of college-high school to get them to the right level.
Adding to this farce...if the Pentagon guys come to test them for the ASVAB test...the Hispanic kids won’t test high enough for any Army entry requirements...so they can’t even go that route.
I think the people in charge know all that and just don’t give sh*t!

They know that. It is their desired outcome.
Well, with all these lowering standards, America will be the only country with “valedictorians” mowing lawns and cleaning toilets.

It does insure a lifetime of dependency on government, which is exactly what the Education Establishment is charged with doing. Independence is anathema for totalitarians.
