As in 411 above those highly finished models are mostly for wedding ceremonies and cutting the cake. Those leather grips with the twisted wire wrap are strictly light duty. There’s a couple of variations on the wall here at the shop. I’ve repaired a few that were showing too many weddings.
I’ve also had US Cavalry combat sabres. As soon as you pick one up you know the difference. The dress swords don’t sharpen very well and don’t hold an edge. You can shave with the field versions. Then you have to watch for the fraternal swords which are close to the same. I’ve had several Knights of Columbus pieces along the way. Never have figgered out how the Knights lose their swords.
