Rep. Jim Jordan met the 20 hold outs tonight and they told him bluntly they won't support him for Speaker
This is crazy. They'll never give us this victory.
Jordan wanted to know what they wanted and what the issue is.
Their opposition doesn't seem to be based on anything.
They're just being complete a**holes for the sake of it?!
Kind of like "Never Trumpers".
Anyway, another (third) Speaker vote is scheduled for tomorrow.
Jordan is not quitting which is good. McCarthy had 15 rounds of voting remember.
The plan to empower the Bush crony as Speaker also did not go down well.
I say keep things in limbo.
The precious Ukraine funding in particular will not happen without a Speaker and the clock is ticking on government funding (CR).
Thoughts on this?

Who voted against Scalise?
Is there any overlap between those who voted against Scalise and those who are holding out against Jordan?
I’m not saying go back to Scalise, I’m just trying to confirm the dynamics of this mess.

You won’t get much sympathy from most FReepers on that, but, “they all look like losers”, or, “they are all crooks” (when it comes to Congress) is a VERY common opinion among MANY voters going all the way back to the shutdown when Gingrich was speaker. That doesn’t translate well to votes for conservative candidates, though, probably because if a pol claims moral high ground and turns out to be a crook, people seem to hate that more than a crook being a crook. :-(

Yeah, OK on that. He’s “been there” since the mid 1990’s...kidding! ;-) I just think as House Speaker he will tend to emulate McCarthy more than emulating a “Freedom Caucus” member.
Some won’t care.
Take Bacon for example. I looked pretty closely at his district. He stomped his last 2 primary opponents. The district is primarily urban voters, so it’s hard to see it electing a deep red candidate in the General Election.
Issues aside, there’s something about the guy I just don’t like — smugness? But, I try not to let that cloud my judgement of what kind of Pubbie outside of personality is electable from that district.
FReepers think our Reps are the problem, and often they are, but a bigger problem is the huge chunk of the population simply not conservative and / or getting bennies from the gov’t.

Probably true on that last.
It’s one thing to be a conservative flame-thrower, it’s another to actually run stuff: Despite the common FReeper opinion to just shut it down, our Gov’t is nearly 1/4 of our GDP. Yes, I know, much of it goes on even in a shutdown, but, shutdowns tend to be politically damaging for Conservatives. The world economy, ours included, is quite vulnerable now too — getting back to a reduced public sector needs to be done carefully to avoid a very tough Depression.
This batch of holdouts didn't say why they are holding out? I'd think they could be hammered on that. That especially with all that's going on in the world...

That is a favorite line, it seems.
I heard him talk about it before it happened, and he said there would be another election. That was his plan. His plan was to invoke the agreed upon rule. It is that simple. Speakers are chosen by having a vote.
Could you illuminate us as to what a plan could be, otherwise.
Bannon was saying that the national debt has increased by one trillion dollars in six months due to the financial plan pushed through by McCarthy. We just as well had had Pelosi as Speaker.
NOt all of them some are just stupid or politically ignorant.
Gaetz is incredibly smart in some areas. But, he does not seem to grasp big league politics. He thinks just because he is safe in his area of North Fla. that all the other holdouts are safe as well. That is not the case.
Bottom line, they are all politically naive. And worse yet the holdouts are doing all this with a very narrow 4 seat margin with massive voter fraud still in the wings yet to be eliminated.
All this amounts to 20 politically naive reps who don't have a clue. These guys have no idea about party politics. Just their own situations. That has to change.
Look at the dirty dems. They are the worst political party ever with nothing at all to run on except lie after lie. Yet when it comes time to vote they all vote in unison!! How smart do you have to be to know to do that.? Seems our side has not figured it out yet.
There is only one hope for the country and it's us. For now, our biggest hope is the Republican party. We can't give up on them. But, we can light a fire under their ass!! That's what we need to do.
These same reps and their families are receiving numerous death threats. There can be no loyalty when this happens.
Jordan has scheduled a press conference for 0800 today.
