He should have let them know beforehand that there would be charges. It’s not unreasonable, imo, to charge your friends for a meal in order to afford to make a better meal.
But they should know going in that is what you are doing.

It’s not a bad idea to have communal dinners, imo.

Sometimes ex-friends are less trouble than currant friends...
I, myself, have no currant friends. Raisin friends, yes, but no currants. (Sorry. Couldn’t help myself) ;)

These questions are not from real people. They are trying to drive behaviors.

One of the owners of one of his designs said that he would sometimes drop by with a knick knack of some sort and say he thought it would look really good on the mantle or some such. They thought that was really nice of him. But then they would get a bill for it in the mail. 🤣
I'd respond with a note saying that after the in-home trial, we decided we didn't like it at the price and he's free to come pick it up with sufficient prior notice.

Clickbait? Even if true it’s a miniscule event. Will not read past headline.
And yet you read far enough to click 'post reply'...

The architect working on our commercial building after weather damages heard I was interested in building on to our cape cod home.(owners suite on main floor). He said let me draw something up for you. I said, ok. Next thing you know he has massive blueprints of plans way out of my league . I was ticked as soon as I saw them. He’d never been to my home, never asked what features I would like! He had the nerve to send me a bill for $4000.needless to say, he was not compensated.

"Sometimes ex-friends are less trouble than currant friends.." Sometimes letting the danged IPad's spell check go unpunished makes for excellent humorous replies to comments...😎

Xlnt job. 800 for a question in an elevator? That doc needs to go to hell. At least the doc should have forewarned you.
Like the idea of charging for forensic analysis..

Headline only. I used to click on “stories” that seemed outrageous or interesting....countless popups, ads, etc...and story with no real ending...I save more time avoiding clickbait.
