After years of cozying up to Vladimir Putin, Benjamin Netanyahu finds himself abandoned.
Russia has responded to Hamas’ slaughter of Israeli civilians with silence, false equivalencies and, in some cases, outright glee. At this point it seems obvious that the Kremlin is no friend of Israel’s and that Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu’s strategic courtship of Moscow was a mistake.
When Russian President Vladimir Putin came to power, he made a concerted effort to strengthen relations with Israel. To this end, he helped establish visa-free travel between the two countries in 2008 and promoted Russo-Israeli cultural ties.
This rapprochement was significant given that, during the Soviet era, Moscow encouraged both legal and informal antisemitism, spurring thousands of Jewish Russians to emigrate to Israel.

After Hamas slaughtered more than 1,000 people in Israel this weekend, a chorus of indignation rose from almost all of the country’s friends — and in that din, Russia was silent.
For days, Putin made no calls to Netanyahu, even though the two men had a close relationship and had spoken 11 times the previous year. The Russian response to Hamas’ attack was to pin blame on the United States and call for a ceasefire, which would effectively leave Hamas off the hook.
At an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Russia joined China in condemning “all attacks against civilians,” but did not specifically criticize Hamas. Russia has also advocated that Israel pull its borders back to where they were in 1967 — a move which Israel has traditionally rejected.
Russia’s state media and online propagandists have celebrated the slaughter of Jews with barely-concealed joy.

Your Reagan quotes are an anachronism. Reagan would have never envisioned that our government would be working against its citizens and on behalf of foreign interests and the military industrial complex.
President Reagan’s statements about appeasing evil, Islam and Russia are just as relevant today as they were back in the 70s and 80s.
Maybe now you’ll learn to skulk back into the shadows and hide your degenerate pro-Nazi sympathies. Nazis 🐀 like you should be shunned.
We have given Russia 100 billion reasons to push this conflict. Thanks neocons.
Putin isn’t jailing innocent Americans and leaving our borders open.
And yet no one had clue about the attack in advance? Or were they sacrificed? Simple questions.
>> The Russian response to Hamas’ attack was to pin blame on the United States and call for a ceasefire
When already in a proxy war with the US, and one’s empathy is subordinate to eventualities, the callous eschewal doesn’t surprise me.
Evan Gershkovich's family would call you a 🤡 🤡 🤡.
Biden fits right in that photo. Three Anti American peas in a pod.
Putin has killed more Russians than any Kremlin occupant since Stalin. And it’s not even close.
I would prefer Egypt in NATO instead of Turkey
Same here
The west has been demonizing Russia for a decade. Now you expect them to come to our aid?
Umm, No. You’d have to be dumb to even think Russia would ever aid us anytime. Not even for decades before now. Russia has ALWAYS been anti-west - they feel it’s their job.
Putin isn’t jailing innocent Americans and leaving our borders open.
Actually he has been jailing innocent Americans and true NOBODY leaves their border open - only the United States and that is our fault.
Putin is evil
Putin has real influence over Iran
Putin to Iran “well if you cant give us exactly what we desperately need in weapons, could you atleast create a crisis in Israel so the West will redirect their superior western weapons to Israel instead of to Ukraine? Could you do that, Iran? Pretty pleeeze?? Encourage Hamas and Hezbolah to go into Israel, please Iran?”
Russia is weakened more everyday.
First, Israel postponed the invasion due to “weather”, they have now turned the water back on, and the border with Egypt has been re-opened.
The S&P futures are up, so assuming no big war.
Biden doesn’t have any influence over Iran, but he has pressured Israel to cave.
Russia doesn’t look like the weak one here.
He has? You mean POS like Brittany Griner who broke Russia's laws?
Putin in a published Op Ed. Surprised you did not know At this point it does not matter Russia supports the destruction of Israel.
Not Brittney but the other Americans she was chosen over
I don’t give a damn one way or the other.
Not playing your false dichotomy games.
