One even expected/demanded the Tree of Liberty to be replenished from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants, which would be what you would call an "illegal revolution" against those tyrants and tyranny we presently find ourselves under.

Not only that. The original Articles of Confederation required unanimity of States to alter. When the 1790 Constitution was “ratified”, that didn’t happen.
Also, when the Shay’s Rebellion and the Whiskey Rebellion happened, elite propagandists like Sam Adams was furious that the rebels were eventually pardoned and wanted the Rebels all executed.
According to Adams, they had every right to rebel against the King. But there was no right to rebel against “The Will of the People”, or the “Republic”, and any such rebels should be put to death.
