Home defense I’ll go with the AR-12, 10 round mag with #4 buckshot and obviously several more loaded magazines.
With 2 10 round magazines you can clear a 1/2 acre as needed.

CAREFUL! If you load a shotgun magazine and keep it loaded, unless you have full-brass hulls, the plastic compresses and makes the shotgun unreliable.
Ask me how I know.
