I must admit, the pitch clock has made a huge difference in speeding up the game.
Orioles in the same boat....and Braves may be the next to fall tonight. Arcia would do well not to poke the bear with a pointy stick.
2023 Dodgers who won’t be on the team next year:
Dave Roberts (someone has to take the blame and he’ll be hired quickly by someone else)
Julio Urias (already gone), Lance Lynn, Daniel Hudson (injured), Blake Treinen (injured, too MAGA), David Peralta, Kolten Wong, Amed Rosario, Clayton Kershaw (injured too often and his fastball is now below 90 mph)
At high risk: Caleb Ferguson (ineffective at times), Alex Vesia (ditto), Miguel Vergas (highly touted but not very good in 2023), Chris Taylor (less effective since 2021)
Lost to having good years but free agent: JD Martinez, Ryan Brasier, Jason Heywood, Kyle Yarbrough
Players who are popular but will be scrutinized more if the Dodgers do the same next year: Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Joe Kelly
Seven consecutive ALCS for the Astros. Impressive
wah-wah-wah-waaah
As a D-Backs fan, I’m tempted to credit our motivation and talent as superior, but your Dodgers did the same last year with the Padres, so it does seem motivation. Player motivation, moreso than the manager.
One nugget from Lynn’s performance: D-backs manager Lovulo noticed Lynn going with pitches that he’d never typically used in key situations. They picked it up quickly, recalibrated strategy and hit 4 (5) dingers in 5 minutes time.
Analytics are analytics, but this detail was beyond my imagination....knowing Lynn had deviated from his normal tendencies. Good on our guys.
100% agreement. One of my late Dad’s best friends grew up in New York before the war. He saw the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, the Giants at the Polo Grounds, and the Dodgers at Ebbets Field.
I remain eternally jealous.
“Never should have left Brooklyn”
Brooklyn one ups even LA for $hit holes.
Sports talk has been saying all season they didn’t have the pitching. Sometimes sports talk is right.
I’ve been saying that myself all season long.
It didn’t help that that stupid Urias beat up his wife again and cost us another starter.
I agree. Hate the new playoff format. Let there be ONE wildcard team and make them play the one seed … SEVEN games all series. 2 plays 3 and the winners play for the pennant. No wildcard round is actually one fewer game. (7 games vs3+5)
