Yes. In Southeast Alaska on Mitkof Island. Your memory is fine. We sold our forty acres in Vermont for a very nice profit.
I was born in Vermont. Family has been there since before the Revolution. But we are both Westerners now.
After thirty years in Hawaii I retired and we took off cruising in our boat. I think we were in Friday Harbor when someone said "You guys should really go check out Alaska. Just make sure you go there last 'cuz you won't want to leave"
So of course we took the old Whaling Route down wind all the way from the San Juans to Sitka via Hawaii. That was 2012.
And here we are. Don't tell anyone but Southeast Alaska is just...Magical.
