I won't say that I hated it, but I just never thought it was very funny. Even the famous "Soup Nazi" episode: "No soup for you!" What was so funny about that?
We actually got soup from the Nazi in NYC!
The funny part is that despite being treated horribly by that guy they keep going back because “the soup is so good”.
Seinfeld was about making fun of narcissistic and neurotic main characters
I guess it was his strict way of doing things. You know Nazi gets tagged with strict adherence of the rules. I’m in an HOA, for the first time in 8 years they are dinging me for my lawn, so I call them HOA Nazi’s.
At the very end of the show, when Newman meets Jerry on the street he says some to the effect that the soup Nazi was selling out and moving to Argentina, which is where some Nazis from WWII where supposed to be hiding.
TO me that was funny...but I have a weird sense of humor.
A buddy and I met the soup nazi, he was a nice guy, we talked for about a half hour.
That he demanded particular ordering etiquette.
That he banned customers, in Elaine's case for a year.
His fierce hostile demeanor as opposed to friendly and welcoming like every other business owner.
To each his own. I'm very familiar with the show and it's quite good. But the first episodes in the first season were dreadfully bad. No zip, no cleverness, dull writing, dead air. None of the characters were even remotely interesting.
