Hamas' armed wing said on Monday it will begin executing an Israeli civilian captive in return for any new Israeli bombing of civilian houses without pre-warning.
Abu Obaida, spokesperson for Hamas' armed wing, the IQB, said they have been acting in accordance with Islamic instructions by keeping Israeli captives safe.
He blamed the intended move on Israel's stepped-up bombing and killing of civilians inside their homes in air strikes without warning them.
'We have decided to put an end to this and as of now, we declare that any targeting of our people in their homes without prior warning will be regrettably faced with the execution of one the hostages of civilians we are holding,' he said.
Gaza City has been devastated by airstrikes today in response to the surprise attack launched by Hamas on Saturday.
Israel today ordered a 'complete siege' of the city, cutting off electricity, fuel and food for the Gaza Strip's 2.3 million people.
n a video statement Monday, Israel's foreign minister warned Hamas against harming any of the hostages who were taken from Israel and being held in Gaza.
Eli Cohen said Israel was committed to bringing the hostages home 'in the spirit of mutual responsibility.'

I believe Israel is focused and up to the task of winning. Israel is not some shithole country. They are quite advanced and fully capable of taking care of business and doing it with their own money. In fact, scarce resources and sole responsibility of their actions will make it imperative that Israel makes the correct and most economical decisions. I have no qualms as to how blunt and brutal Israel can be. They have already implemented an appropriate level of barbarism that is inexpensive and will be effective. Water, electricity, communications and food have been cut. All of those do not cost Israel one dime.
The next step seems to be relatively straightforward: bomb them into the Stone Age. There are inexpensive and very crude ways of doing that as long as people don’t don’t have a problem with collateral damage. The vermin existing in Gaza have already been warned to stay away from active combat areas. Hopefully, Israel will give them one more warning to march into the Sinai and politely explain that they will never be allowed to return.

The IDF spokesperson said on Monday that there is no concrete knowledge of any Iran involvement in the Hamas assault, in its planning or its execution. He said Israel and the U.S. were in close coordination to secure the region against Iranian aggressions.

The Wall Street Journal was very quick to publish a report alleging direct Iranian involvement in preparing Hamas’ surprise attack in Israel:
Iranian security officials helped plan Hamas’s Saturday surprise attack on Israel and gave the green light for the assault at a meeting in Beirut last Monday, according to senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah, another Iran-backed militant group.
Officers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had worked with Hamas since August to devise the air, land and sea incursions—the most significant breach of Israel’s borders since the 1973 Yom Kippur War—those people said.
The rush to tie Iran directly to this attack is worrying. Given how thin the sourcing is for this report, it is dangerous and irresponsible to put out a story containing such explosive claims. Unfortunately, we know that this report, no matter how inaccurate and unfounded it is, will be used by hawks to ratchet up tensions with Iran to the detriment of everyone in the region.
At the very minimum, Iran’s oil fields and refineries need to be taken out. No more effective way to cut off their money supply.
