I agree with you. Not everyone has the benefit of a rural, conservative upbringing, but it doesn’t mean that they are gay. He may well have been conservative and law-abiding, and hence unwilling to violate NYC’s impossible CCW laws. RIP.

And he was not a native New Yorker. He was from "the Boston area" (perhaps a safe suburb?). A native New Yorker would have been more street savvy.
