I personally have no dog in this hunt. But a better question might be, why are American soldiers stationed in Kosovo in the first place? It’s ridiculous. Nothing that happens in Kosovo can affect the United States in the least.
This is a local problem, or at most an EU problem. Let them spend the money and take the risks.
I'm not sure the US was right to intervene in Kosovo in the 1990s, but what happens in the Balkans is absolutely important to the US. A little over a 100 years ago we lost 320,000 casualties to a local Balkan squabble that escalated out control and repeating that would be bad.

Pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution 1244, they are there as part of a NATO peace keeping force authorized by that resolution.
