In case you all are following the terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas (from Gaza)...I assume we all think that since all citizens are required to do a 2 yr stint in their army (I will have to refresh my memory on that) when I heard this morning that the terrorists were kidnapping Israeli civilians and taking them to Gaza, killing and kidnapping soldiers, and going into Israeli neighborhoods and straight-up slaughtering the civilians I thought “Wait, don’t the civvies all have their service weapons from their time in the army?” Apparently not.
I found this, it might be helpful to know in the coming war. I firmly believe (and hope) that Israeli decides to stop kissing the world’s ass and just wipes out and re-homes the Palestinians. Usual disclaimers about it’s not the people I hate, it’s the “government” I disdain.

Gun owners must obtain a license from the state to own and carry a firearm, which involves mental and physical health checks and proficiency training. Still, public officials openly recognize the benefits of civilian gun ownership for protecting the public against these kinds of terrorist attacks.
“Trained citizens who hold weapons in the public sphere contribute to the feeling of security,” said Gilad Erdan in 2018. Erdan was the minister of public security at the time and had just announced new regulations relaxing the requirements to obtain a gun permit. “They are an important line of defense against ‘lone wolf’ actions and are used in a sense as a temporary force multiplier, thereby strengthening public safety.”
In January of this year, Bibi was supposed to address the issue of letting more citizens get carry permits...but then there was that whole Court thing and he had to stand down on some things...
