The negatives are believed to be from Ernest Shackleton's 1914-1917 Ross Sea Party, a group that was stranded in the hut during a blizzard when their ship blew out to sea. They were eventually rescued, but the box remained buried until now.

Most likely they contain photos of Tourist Guy.

The guy in the pic is a dead ringer, and I mean dead ringer for me when I was in my late 40s up until a few years ago. The face, hair, 'stache and intimidating scowl match almost exactly. Crazy!

I just showed this to my wife and she said, "Damn! That is you!"

Weird - I don't remember being there. . . but I do hate the cold. . .
