Just read an interesting account of the 2008 election, where mutually assured destruction led to the withholding of opposition research by both the Obama and McCain campaigns. Contrary to his "hero" status, McCain was apparently a big singer as a POW and made countless broadcasts denouncing the US for his N. Vietnamese captors, and then as Senator stymied all efforts to investigate reports that POW/MIA were held captive in N. Korea, China, and Vietnam after hostilities ended because he was afraid such investigations would lead back to his own sorry history as a coward POW. Meanwhile, as the recent Tucker interview revealed, the Obama campaign was trying to keep his homosexual and drug abuse histories from public view. Thus both campaigns had secrets they wished to keep hidden, and agreed to not unleash their opposition research to avoid such campaign destroying evidence from getting media coverage. And of course the cooperative and docile media played dumb and complied with the agreement.
The point in bringing this up is not that both candidates had serious skeletons in their closets, but that such dirt meant that either could be controlled as President by DC insiders and powerbrokers to make sure neither would get any "independent" ideas that might provide US citizens and taxpayers with good government. This of course is also why crooked Joe is president, and why all pretenses of fair and honest elections were abandoned to remove Trump, because as the Mueller investigations and 2 impeachment proceedings have revealed - there was no significant dirt on Trump that would allow them to directly control his agenda. Such a 'clean' candidate is the most terrifying prospect to the DC swamp, and why Trump is now under weekly indictments for a series of non-crimes while crooked Joe gets kid glove treatment.
A very close friend served in the USAF with a man who was a prisoner in the Hanoi Hilton at the same time as McCain. Had nothing but good to say about him.
