The Ukrainian army has shown Russia and the world that it is not afraid to take on complex missions against challenging targets inside Ukraine and Russia. Today, the Ukrainian army has carried out mind-boggling operations in Donbass, on Ukraine’s southern front lines, in Crimea and even in Russian cities. As the latest reports and analyses of the Ukrainian war show, the most encouraging news of the day comes from the southern axis. The southern front has long been the main focus of the Ukrainian armed forces’ offensive. The objective here is quite simple, yet important. Ukraine aims to completely clear the south of the country of Russian invaders and shift the axis of attack to the Black Sea peninsula.

We’re heading to the Kherson region to explore the details of the hot breaking points. On the ground, Ukrainian forces are attacking Russian supply nodes and stepping up their activities around the Dnipro River. In other words, the Ukrainians are trying to put the Russians under a complete blockade. The Ukrainian tactic is quite simple. Kiev’s troops aim to exhaust and wear down the Russians on land and drown them completely in the water. Ukrainian troops on the Dnipro River, especially under cover of darkness, move behind enemy lines and conduct reconnaissance and sabotage operations. During these sabotage activities, Russian troops are suddenly attacked. As a result of the attacks, Russian boats and gunboats are buried in the cool waters of Dnipro.

Ukrainian forces turn the losses of the Russian army in their favor and knock them out. The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to push back Russian troops to clear at least 10-15 kilometers of the strip of land on the Russian-occupied left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast. This will critically reduce the number of attacks on the right bank and will be a relief for residents of settlements along the coast. Natalia Humeniuk, head of the Joint Coordination Press Center of the Southern Defense Forces, stated this on the national telethon. Ukrainian forces carried out another critical airstrike for this purpose. As the clock struck midnight, powerful explosions were heard in Dnipro. According to local residents, powerful explosions were heard from various parts of the city. Some of the explosions were recorded in the area of the Dnepr-Liski freight railway station. At the time of the explosions, a railroad train with military equipment and ammunition was being unloaded there. This made the cause of the explosions clear.

The aim of the attack was to damage military infrastructure and disrupt equipment transfer plans. The lack of equipment and supplies in the Russian army has been on the agenda for a long time. The Ukrainian armed forces struck another blow to the Russians by attacking the railway train in order to disrupt Russian logistics. It is still unclear what kind of weapons were used in the attack. According to preliminary information from Ukrainian monitoring channels, in addition to the already known Geran-2 drones, missiles of unknown type could be used in possible attacks. This information is of particular interest as the use of new weapons has only recently become known. So far, there is no precise information on possible casualties and destruction.

Ukrainian and Russian authorities have yet to comment on the attack. The details of the attack remain shrouded in fog. We know that many Ukrainian towns and villages on the left bank of the Ukrainian-controlled Kherson Oblast remain within range of Russian artillery. Russian forces carry out daily fire attacks on settlements, including the regional capital Kherson. Kherson is being relentlessly bombarded by Russian forces. Not a day goes by without civilian casualties, neither in the city nor in the surrounding villages. Both incoming and outgoing artillery echoes through the city streets and intensifies sharply at night. The attacks often result in civilian casualties.

Over the past day, Russian occupation forces attacked residential buildings in Nova Kakhovka with controlled aerial bombs. According to preliminary information released by the Russian occupation authorities, one person was killed and three residents were injured as a result of the attack.

The occupiers cynically blamed the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the shelling. It was also reported that as a result of the shelling, houses in the Sokil microdistrict were hit and apartments in three high-rise buildings in the area of Gorky-Dovzhenko streets were destroyed. Ukrainians are aiming to clear the left bank of Dnipro to prevent these attacks.

I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video I will tell you what happened on the five hundred seventy second day of the war.

Day 572: Sep 18

Today, there are a lot of updates from the south.

FIRST of all, more information became available about the devastating Ukrainian strike on the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Today, the Conflict Intelligence Team published leaked photos of the Russian submarine “Rostov na Donu” and it revealed a lot of additional information. The analysts concluded that the submarine suffered from at least 3 missiles, 1 of which landed precisely on top of the vessel, inflicting fatal damage.

What this means is that, firstly, given that Ukrainians also destroyed the assault landing ship “Misk”, there were likely more than 3 missiles that passed through the Russian air defense. And secondly, the missiles proved to be capable of hitting relatively small objects with very high accuracy, which is why Russian analysts once again started raising discussions about the level of protection of the main Crimean Bridge that connects it to Russia.

So far, from aerial means, Ukrainians have only used several missiles S-200. These are modernized Soviet missiles, which is why Russians managed to intercept them, and the bridge is still standing. However, if Ukrainians decide to use Storm Shadow missiles, the outcome will likely be different. Russians understand this, which is why, as a precaution, every time they detect that Ukrainians are using Su-24M, Russians close the bridge.

Some Russian analysts also raised concerns about the leakage of footage. The photos of the damaged submarine were not available in the first days because the submarine has a low profile compared to the assault landing ship “Misnk”, which is why it could not be seen from the residential houses.

Russian Military obviously tried to conceal the result of the work, but as it turned out, someone who was present on the site sold these pictures to a Ukrainian Intelligence agent. The footage not only allowed to verify the destruction of the target but also the precision of the strike, opening the door to planning more sophisticated strikes on smaller targets.

And Ukrainians continued conducting drone strikes on Crimea. Today local residents reported hearing explosions in the southern part of Sevastopol, near Cape Fiolent, and near Belbek airfield. Yesterday, explosions were reported once again in Sevastopol and also Feodosia.

The Head of Ukrainian Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov stated that regular drone strikes on Russia and Russian-controlled territories have the following 3 goals.

Firstly, Ukrainians are trying to exhaust Russian air defense. And even though Russians do replenish their reserves, constant strikes do not allow Russians to be fully ready, and if there are some logistical problems and bottlenecks in some regions, then the air defense may not have enough rockets during the decisive moment. But the drones obviously are not just launched to be shot down by the air defense, and even if the probability of such an outcome is high, the drones always have a real military target.

Ironically, as we have seen several days ago in Sevastopol, sometimes the target of the drones becomes the air defense systems themselves. However, the primary military target of Ukrainian forces right now is Russian aviation. In fact, during the last month, Ukrainians damaged and destroyed so many Russian strategic transport airlifters and bombers that Russians started relocating them and putting tires on the fuselage. The effectiveness of the measures is quite doubtful because the shrapnel from explosions is capable of penetrating metal, however, the new style clearly highlights the increased level of concerns about the losses in aviation.

Finally, the third goal of continued drone strikes is the destruction of the infrastructure that is critical for supporting war efforts. One such target today became the huge Russian oil depot in Feodosia. Even in this particular case, the drones were shot down, some strikes are quite successful, like yesterday’s strike on the Russian rocket fuel factory in the Tver region or last week’s strike on the administrative building of the biggest factory of microelectronics, which is indispensable in the contemporary equipment.
