I had a 69 Beetle. I had to pump the brake, shift into Neutral, then rev the accelerator while operating the hand brake every time I rolled to a stop or the engine would shut off. I also had to bang my fist on the right headlight to turn it on and when I closed the door, the speaker fell out. My friends found this endlessly hilarious, but I loved that car.

You had to bang the headlight in just the right spot to turn it on with just a tap. Of course, my brother once whacked it in the wrong spot with his meaty paw and dented the fender.

My first car was a knackered Bug too! I found out years later that my father preferred that I drove myself places in order to keep me out of boys’ cars. He wasn’t worried about boys in my car because he believed there was no room in a Bug to do anything.

I had a 69 Beetle.

Had a few bugs myself. It's how I learned to drive with no brakes and sometimes with no clutch. Never both at once, thankfully.

that is a riot...sounds like a lot of trial and error...

i had a sonata where my left headlight would sporadically go out. I would open and close the hood and it would go back on. (Turns out a connection semi-melted and everything smelled like fish).
I am a Bears fan, wearing a Bears hat, and I was in Packer territory. A cop stopped me for having one headlight. It wasn’t even dusk. Banged on the fender and the light went on.

I had an old Fox by Audi starter go haywire. I had to park on an incline(after backing it in)so I could get the car rolling, to pop the clutch to get it started.
