Re F-35:

In the four-minute call to the 911 emergency number, the resident of a North Charleston home can be heard telling a confused dispatcher that “we got a pilot in the house”.
“I guess he landed in my backyard,” the resident added. “We’re trying to see if we could get an ambulance to the house, please”.
The 47-year-old pilot, who has not been named, said that he felt “OK” after ejecting at approximately 2,000ft (609m). Only his back hurt.
“Ma’am, a military jet crashed. I’m the pilot. We need to get rescue rolling,” he added.
“I’m not sure where the airplane is. It would have crash landed somewhere. I ejected.”
The pilot later again asked the dispatcher to “please send an ambulance” and said that he “rode a parachute down to the ground”.

In a separate 911 call obtained by the AP, an unidentified official said that they had “a pilot with his parachute” that had lost sight of the aircraft “on his way down to the weather”.
While it is unclear how and why the F-35 continued flying after the pilot’s ejection, the Marine Corps said that its flight control software may have helped it remain level even without a pilot’s hands on the controls.
“This is designed to save our pilots if they are incapacitated or lose situational awareness,” the statement quoted by the AP said.
The search may have been hampered by the plane’s anti-radar stealth capabilities and technology that wipes the jet’s communications system if a pilot ejects.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
A report to the US government on Thursday said that inadequate training, a lack of spare parts and complex repair processes had left the US military’s F-35 fleet around 55% effective.

Interesting timing of the crash just before a report came out about effectiveness. Also, an older pilot who may have been considering retirement... could he have decided to call attention to the F-35’s safety rate for the good of his fellow pilots?

And punched out of a good plane? Should be court-martialed if so, there are other ways to call attention to a problem that will get you fired, don't wreck an aircraft to try and prove a point.

Can’t blame the F235 pilot for being, maybe, a little dis-oriented after landing in a farmer’s yard but that dispatcher must be the newest diversity hire? It’s not like he/she/it isn’t working in a neighborhood with a lot of aircraft activity. Maybe we don’t have the whole call but it sounds like Farmer John doesn’t know where hisself is either. First thing to do with a call for ambulance/rescue assistance is spout off where you are/is/was? There has got to be something in the water in the greater Charleston area.

And then the Marine Corp says the plane might have flown on by itself because it has so much bleeping geewiz stuff built in. My old Piper 140 would do that: fly by itself-— for a lot less than 80 million bucks. That whole F35 program is maybe the worst make-work program for the whole defense industrial cadre ever. Bad enough that we’re spending a billion bucks each to build 50 million dollar submarines. But at least they work until Captain Rub-a-dub plows one into the bottom.

As i thought its spare parts again, for some reason it never gets into the military budget. This plane was only 55% viable accd. to the piece, unacceptable as we now see.
Not that the Obiden/obama administration cares but no one was hurt in this debacle. If the plane had landed in a city it could have killed or hurt dozens if not hundreds.
All because of no spare parts which has been going on for years.
