High schools are graded on the number of students who go on to college. The counseling to students contains very little information on the consequences of debt. In addition, the colleges present student loans as if they are scholarships. These kids are entering into commitments at 17 that they are not equipped to make. Those counseling them have no repercussions.

Kids going to college is blamed on things like what you write about. And I guess that is true. But let’s not dismiss the original reason a lot of middle class white kids thought college was a good idea: Draft deferrals.

In the sixties kids were told they could get a deferment from the Vietnam draft by going to college. Dropping out meant the draft board was notified.

That led to these kids then realizing that college grads made more. Then it became a generational thing.

Back in 2008/09 when Obama took over the student loan process many people around here were making noise that this was not going to end well.

In the end the deflation of the government subsidized college racket has caught up to the students.

It sucks for the kids now…but that is what happens when people forget history.

As minors, 17-year olds generally cannot bind themselves into a contract. An adult of the age of majority must co-sign and accept liability for the loan. Many are doing it at age 18.

These same children are eligible to vote for President. They really can't accept college loans for four years and expect people who did not go to college to pay for it. At some time during those four years, they stopped being 17 or 18 years old. They kept taking the money in their twenties.
