I’ve heard in the past, that astro turf was supposedly easier to maintain, and also prevented a muddy sloppy field in case of rain or snow.
I don’t know if anyone is talking about thise issues nowadays.
Memories are short. Can’t grow grass at that latitude in January. They won’t shorten the season - neither players, owners, nor TV would allow that.
So, does the players union want them to ban indoor stadiums too? Anybody old enough to remember Houston finding out they couldn’t grow grass in the Astrodome when it opened - even with translucent roof panels and at about the lowest latitude in pro sports?
Weren’t the games of the 60’s and 70’s wonderful. Playing in the mud. Now that was football.
