If it's something I know about, I have reason to trust my knowledge and experience, no matter how much you denigrate my "gut".
If it's something I don't know all that well, I rely on my general understanding of "how stuff works" to assess the value of the information.
If it comes from a source that has given me bad information in the past, I tend not to trust the information until I get further evidence.
If it comes from a trusted source, based on past experience, I give it a higher confidence factor but it's still tentative until I learn more.
If what read is full of obvious BS, hyperbole, political slants, scare tactics or ad hominem attacks, I give it very low marks from the start, you will have to work much harder to convince me.
That's how my gut works. It's not emotional, it's as much reasoning as possible.

When it came to the covid vaccines I was sort of neutral but all the wrong factions were pushing it way too hard for my taste so initially I wasn’t qualified to get it and then as more info kept trickling in here on FR I took a wait and see stance. Still waiting but now it’s til hell freezes over.
