At every stage of the draft, the average Black quarterback outperformed their non-Black peers. In fact, the analysis found that the average Black quarterback was more likely to receive at least one Pro Bowl selection than the average non-Black quarterback selected 66 picks (roughly two rounds) earlier.
Which average black QB is this? My 49ers took Trey Lance (a black QB) with the third pick in the draft a couple of years ago, trading away two #1 picks for the privilege. Last year they took Brock Purdy (a whte QB) with the last pick in the draft. Last year, Brock Purdy took hold of the starting spot after Lance got hurt and he never let it go. Lance was traded away this pre-season - hopefully the young man goes on to build a great NFL career, but so far he's been out-competed at every turn by the guy taken last in the draft.
