They are Hormuz at the entrance to the Persian Gulf, Malacca at Singapore, Sunda near Jakarta, and the Lombok near Bali. They hold the key to the PRC's oil supply. China imports over 2/3 of its oil and 2/3 of that is a convenient 7,000 NM away in the Persian Gulf.
Once the oil leaves the Gulf, there are nine nations capable of stopping that flow. They are Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, The Philippines, Taiwan, the United States, and Vietnam. I'm not including Britain and France. If any one of these countries decides that they are going to cut off its oil, the PRC is screwed.
