Ever since going to college and encountering library science majors I have ridiculed their profession. They are among the least intelligent people you’ll run into. They are right up there with education, journalism and “studies” majors. Christ, it takes a masters degree in library science to get a job running a library. It is over credentialism at its worst. That in itself is reason to fire every single librarian and replace them with someone from the fast food business that has the ability to read.

The core of library sciences is researching... I’ve only seen them check out books, heck the library candy striper is the one who puts the books back on the shelf.

I run an academic library in a community college setting. I managed to end up as a campus director without the MLS degree, I have an undergrad degree and masters not in library science. I started out as a part time hire with a college degree and worked in the trenches so to speak. I have worked with numerous directors with the MLS degree and you are correct most do not have enough sense to come in out of a hail storm. Out of thirty years of employment in this library I have encountered two directors who were logical and had common sense, the rest are either lazy or leftist or both.

Right now I am at loggerheads with my over all director. We have thirty years of leftist books sitting on our shelves. When I took over I decided to add some balance and got called out on it, never mind the items I bought were actually circulating and not collecting dust on the shelf. I was told to censor anything covid related to meet CDC guidelines-I was buying books that didn’t follow the CDC covid line and guess what people were reading them. I can’t out right refuse the directors orders, so unless I am in need for items for a particular program, say nursing etc... I simply started replacing dated equipment, computers and modernizing. I have resisted any efforts to politicize my particular library drag shows and garbage like that is met with a hard no. I believe in putting both sides out there and let the people decide for themselves. I made that statement to a previous director, a committed leftist and lazy crack and he was literally stunned.
