I’ve not liked pit bulls all my life. But my neighbor has a pittie that doesn’t know that. He’s made himself my best dog friend. He’s even got me bringing him bones and treats. My daughter still can’t believe it, as she know how I feel about pit bulls.
I get it. This is what really scares me if I think about it....so I choose to not think about it.
My son and soon-to-be-daughter-in-law live down the way from good friends who have a pitbull. They love this dog and it plays with the kids all the time, including my little granddaughter.
It’s all well and good, and chances are nothing will happen. However, I’ve read too many stories about kids being mauled and killed by pitbulls who were wonderful and loving pets....right up until the minute they snapped.
I have read of so many parents who had loving dogs who wound up harming, or killing, their kids. I am certain that these parents didn’t think their dog would ever turn into an eating machine, but sometimes they do. The remorse, guilt and overwhelming grief is devastating. So what I don’t get is, why would anyone take the chance with kids around? If these dogs can “snap”, which they are known to do, why risk it with your children.
I’ve said numerous times to my son to be on guard. A kid (especially a little one) could poke, or stick a finger in an eye, anything.....and those dogs go for the smaller creatures. I am sorry, I just would never trust one. Better safe than sorry.
Oh, I also wouldn’t trust at Shepherd or a Doberman, either. Not with kids.
